A LITTLE NEWS FORM THE ROD GARDENS, WARSAW
Thank you to all who wrote in the last months in support of the gardens, sorry we were not able to respond quicker with an update! The work is continuing in the gardens at ROD, as we also spend time supporting imprisoned friends and co-gardeners. We are very concerned for their wellbeing. On May 23rd 2016 three anarchists from Warsaw were arrested and accused of terrorist activitiies. They face 6 months to 8 years of jail. The prosecution held them in custody for 3 months which may be automatically prolonged. All three are detained in isolation and denied the right to communicate with relatives. During the first week of detention none of them had access to a lawyer and there were signs of physical abuse on their bodies. more info on the arrest and details of support in various languages:

These arrests happened just as the government was taking steps too impliment a NEW ANTI TERRORIST ACT. Significantly on 10th, 23rd and 30th May in various Polish cities a series of false bomb alarms took place, leading to evacuation of sites such as editorial offices of media and television, shopping centers, and banks. The law was signed into force on the 22nd June 2016. The Polish government claimed that the new Anti-terrorism Law was necessary in order to increase coordination of the intelligence agencies and prepare for potential security threats related to the the upcoming NATO summit (July 2016) and World Youth Day (June 2016). more info on the Anti Terrorism Act:

Repression against the anarchist movement in Poland is rising. Also on May 23rd the police visited ROD four times. Since then, the collective is harassed by uniformed police (weekly visits). In Krakow, police searched the apartment and questioned a person who set up a social media site ridiculing inflated police accusations. In Warsaw information is circulating about police bothering people associated with the movement, and increased surveillance of anarchist spaces. At ROD we are continuing as best we can with the project. We are working in the gardens, although on a smaller scale than imagined at the start of the season. We have not had the energy to do all the projects we had thought about – especialy in relation to the local area and neighbourhood. We are happy for anyone who is passing by and has some time to help us with the gardens and building work. We still talk about the idea of organising a free food market in the local area! We have completed building a windturbine which provides now some energy and we are planning on installing some solar panels as well. We have also started to save a good ammount of seed to share and for next year. Other news from Poland includes… ABORTION BAN: a call from Polish Catholic bishops May 2016 for a full ban on abortion. The right wing, national-conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party, which came to power in October 2015, plans to tighten regulations to bring them into line with the Catholic Church’s teachings. There have been Pro Choice demonstrations in reaction to this. PiS leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski told reporters that as a Catholic, he had to follow the bishops’ call. PiS also plans to reinstate a prescription requirement for ‘morning after’ emergency contraceptive pills. The party has a majority in parliament, and Kaczynski’s influence means that the party’s lawmakers tend to follow his cue. Prime Minister Beata Szydlo also expressed support for a ban. POLISH SMALL FARMERS: farmers along with NGOs such as ICPPC

are protesting the sale of land in Poland to international buyers. They are also running anti GMO campaigns and a campaign called ‘Direct From the Farmer’. They have released a Charter for Real Food surrported by Via Campesina. Up until now the sale of on-farm processed foods was illegal unless farmers established their operations as a separate business and in a separate hygienically sanitised building; this is unaffordable to most small farmers whose farms are between 3 and 10 hectares. Actions so far have included tractor blockades mostly in north west of the country,petitions and illegal farmers markets. Some farmers were arrested during these actions but have since been released:
These campaigns have had some success. Unfortunatly the ICPPC are very happy to work with the Law and Justice (PiS) party and leader Kaczynski…which are openly homophobic.

ROD, Radicall Allotment Gardens, Warsaw: Wind Turibine in troubles !
On the morning of 4th Aug 2016, representatives of building development company Dom Development came to ROD gardens. They cut the lock on the door and entered without informing the gardeners of their arrival. Gardeners asked them why they were there. They said PINB (Powiatowy Inspektor Nadzoru Budowlanego – District Construction Supervision Inspector) had sent them written notice that they need to destroy an unauthorised building. They identified this building as the wind turbine and tower. The said it would be demolished in 1 week!
The wind turbine is an important part of the ROD gardens. ROD gardens
are working to grow good food in Warsaw city centre. The wind turbine
provides clean energy to the project. It was carefully and safely built using high quality recycled materials. The wind turbine itself is made from a recycled washing machine. This construction was the subject of the Szkoła Ogrodników Miejskich (Urban Garden School) 2016. People came to learn how the wind turbine works and had been built. The workshop shared knowledge of renewable energy and basic building skills.
Now Dom Development claim that they must destroy the construction.

EIN PAAR NACHRICHTEN AUS DEM ROD GARTEN, WARSCHAU
Danke an alle, die uns letztlich unterstützt haben, die uns Briefe oder Emails geschickt haben. Sorry für die späte Antwort und Updates. Die Arbeit geht weiter im ROD – seit ein Paar Monaten wurde aber viel Zeit in die Unterstützung unserer eingeknasteten Gartenfreunden investiert. Wir machen uns schon viele Sorgen um sie. Am 23ten Mai 2016, wurden drei anarchistische Aktivisten aus Warschau festgenommen und wegen terroristischer Aktivitäten angeklagt. Ihnen droht zwischen 6 Monate und 8 Jahr Gefängnis. Sie sind gerade in Isolation und dürfen keinen Kontakt mit ihren Familien haben. Während der ersten Woche Gefangenschaft konnten sie keine_n Rechtsanwalt_in sehen. Diese Festnahmen geschahen genau als die Regierung versuchte ein neues anti-Terrorismus Gesetz zu verabschieben. Am 10ten, 23sten und 30ten Mai wurden auch in verschiedenen Städte Polens falsche Bombenalerte inszeniert, Media- und Fernsehebüros, Banken und Einkaufgalerien mussten evakuiert werden. Das Gesetz wurde am 22ten Juni durchgepusht und verabschiedet. Das Gesetz sollte die Koordination zwischen den verschiedenen Sicherheitsektoren vereinfachen. Rechtfertigt wurde sie auch durch die Sicherheitsnotwendigkeit der NATO Gipfel und Weltjungendtage (Juni – Juli 2016). Mehr Info über das Gesetzt:

Die Repression gegen die polnische anarchiste Bewegung wird immer krasser. Am 23ten Mai wurde ROD 4 mal von der Polizei besucht. Seitdem sind die Bewohner_innen der Gartens wochentlich von uniformierten Polizisten besucht und schikaniert worden. In Krakau durchsuchte die Polizei die Wohnung einer Person, die in social media die aufgeblasenen Beschuldigungen der Bullen lächerlich macht. Viele Nachrichten kursieren, dass Leute die nah an der Szene sind schikaniert werden. Die Überwachung anarchistischer Orte nihmt auch zu. Im ROD machen wir weiter wie möglich. Wir arbeiten im Garten, auch wenn es etwas weniger wird als was wir uns am Anfang des Frühlings vorgestellt hatten. Uns fehlt die Energie alle Projekten die uns am Herzen liegen zu verwirklichen – insbesonders die Vernetzungsarbeit mit der Nachbarschaft. Wir freuen uns riesig auf Besuch und Unterstützung im Garten und “Baustelle”. Wir haben noch vor einen Umsonst-Kiezmarkt zu organisieren! Wir sind gerade mit dem Bau einer Windanlage fertig und planen mehr Sonnenkollektoren zu installieren. Wir sammeln auch ausgiebig Saatgut zum teilen und für das nachstes Jahr. Andere Nachrichten aus Polen… ABTREIBUNGSVERBOT: Aufruf der Katholischen Polnischen Bischöfe im Mai 2016 zum Verbot der Abtreibung. Die rechte national-konservative Partei “Gesetz und Justiz” (PiS), die seit Oktober des letzen Jahres regiert, hat vor die Abtreibung zu erschweren. So sollten die Wünsche der Kirche erfüllt werden. Es gab Pro Abtreibung Demos. Jaroslaw Kaczynski, der Leader des PiS sagte Journalisten, dass er als Katholiker den Aufruf des Bischofs folgen musste. Die PiS plant auch, den Zugang zur der “Pille danach” zu erschweren dadurch, dass sie nun nur auf Rezept zugänglich werden sollte. Kaczynskis Einfluß heisst die Abgeordnete der Partei folgen seine Hinweisen. Die Premierministerin Beata Szydlo hat sich auch gegen die Abtreibung geäußert. KAMPF DER POLNISCHEN KLEINBÄUER_INNEN: BaäurInnen kämpfen (unterstützt von NGO wie ICPPC

gegen das Verkauf der Erde an internationalen InvestorInnen. Sie führen Kampagnen gegen gentechnische verändertere Organismen und eine Kampagne die “direkt von dem Bauer” gennant ist. Sie haben ein Erklärung zu Ernährungssouveränität veroffentlicht, die von Via Campesina unterstützt wurde. Sie kämpfen gegen ein Gesetz, das verhindert, dass Bäur_innen selber Derivaten aus ihren selbst produzierten Lebensmitteln herstellen können. Hauptgrund dafür ist, dass sich die Herstellungsanlage in einem getrennten Gebäude befinden sollten. Kleine Bäuer_innen die zwischen 3 und 10 Hektare besitzen können meistens nicht die Bedingungen erfüllen. Es gab Aktionen wie Traktorblockaden (meistens in Nord-Westen des Landes), Petitionen und illegale Bauermärkte. Es gab Festnahmen, alle wurden aber rausgelassen.
Diese Kampagnen sind erfolgreich. Zu Bedauern ist aber die Kollaboration des ICPPC mit der PiS, auch wenn diese keine Hemmungen hat seine homophobische Ansichten in die Offentlichkeit klarzustellen.

Quelques nouvelles des Jardins ROD, Varsovie
Merci pour le soutien apporté ces derniers mois aux Jardins, aux lettres et messages envoyés, désolé.e.s de n’avoir pas été plus rapide à donner des nouvelles ! Le maraîchage et le travail suivent leur cours à ROD, le soutien à des amis jardiniers emprisonnés nous a aussi pris beaucoup de temps. Nous nous faisons pas mal de soucis pour eux. Le 23 mai 2016 trois activistes anarchistes de Varsovie ont été arrêtés et accusés d’activités terroristes. Ils encourent de 6 mois à 8 ans de prison. Le parquet les détient depuis trois mois, période qui devrait être automatiquement prolongée. Les trois sont en isolation et ne peuvent communiquer avec leurs familles. Ce n’est qu’après la première semaine de détention qu’ils ont pu avoir accès à un.e avocat.e. On a pu constater des traces physiques de violences. Ces arrestations ont eu lieu alors que le gouvernement s’apprête à passer une nouvelle Loi Anti-Terroriste. Les 10, 23 et 30 mai une série de fausses alertes à la bombe a une lieu dans plusieurs villes de Pologne, entraînant l’évacuation de plusieurs lieux publiques tels que des bureaux de médias, des centres commerciaux ou encore des banques. La loi a été passée en force le 22 juin 2016. Le gouvernement a justifié cette loi par la nécessité de renforcer la sécurité lors du sommet de l’OTAN et les journées mondiales de la jeunesse qui ont eu lieu en juin et juillet passés. Montée de la répression antianarchiste en Pologne. Le 23 mai le police est venue à ROD 4 fois. Depuis lors, le groupe est mis sous pression par des visites hebdomadaires de flics en uniforme. À Cracovie ils ont fouillé l’appartement d’une personne qui ridiculise dans un blog les accusations hyperboliques de la police. À Varsovie on entend de nombreux témoignages d’harcèlement policier sur des personnes proches du mouvement et sur des lieux anars. À ROD nous poursuivons tant bien que mal le projet. On jardine, bien qu’à une échelle plus réduite que ce que l’on s’imaginait au début de la saison. Il nous a manqué l’énergie pour mener à bien tous les projets qui nous tiennent à coeur – notamment le travail avec le voisinnage. Nous nous réjouissons des visites et de soutien pour bosser aux jardins et bricoler. On a toujours en tête d’organiser un marché gratuit pour le quartier ! On a terminé la construction d’une éolienne et comptons aussi renforcer notre “parc” de panneaux solaires ! Nous avons aussi commencé à collecter des semences à partager pour l’année prochaine. Quelques autres nouvelles de Pologne… INTERDICTION DE L’AVORTEMENT : Les évêques polonais ont lancé en mai un appel pour une interdiction totale de l’avortement. Le parti national conservateur de droite Loi et Justice (PiS), au pouvoir depuis octobre 2015, a pour projet de durcir la réglementation afin de se mettre au diapason des exigences de l’église catholique. En réaction il y a eu des manifs pro-avortement. Le leader du PiS Jaroslaw Kaczynski, a déclaré qu’en tant que catholique son devoir était de suivre l’appel des évêques. Le PiS souhaite par ailleurs rendre le pillule du lendemain uniquement accessible sous prescription. Le parti est majoritaire au parlement et Kaczynski est son homme fort. La première ministre Beata Szydlo s’est aussi exprimée pour une interdiction. COMBAT DES PETITS PAYSANS : Des paysans, soutenus par des ONGs telles que l’ICPPC

protestent contre la vente de la terre à des investiseurs étrangers. Ielles organisent par ailleurs des campagnes anti OGM ansi qu’une campagne nommée “Direct depuis le.a product.eur.rice. Ielles ont publié une charte pour une vraie alimentation, soutenue par Via Campesina. Jusqu’à aujourd’hui la vente de produits transformés à la ferme est régulée de telle manière que les petites exploitations (3-10 hectares) ne peuvent remplir les conditions (production dans un bâtiment séparé remplissant les conditions sanitaires nécessaires). Il y a eu des blocages de tracteurs, principalement dans le nord-ouest du pays, ainsi que des campagnes de signatures et des marchés illégaux. Il y a eu quelques arrestations mais les exploitant.e.s ont été relâché.e.s.
Ces actions ont porté leurs fruits, malheureusement l’ICPPC ne voit pas de problème à collaborer avec le PiS et son leader Kaczynski – malgré leur homophobie affichée.

Ocalmy Turbinę Wiatrową!
Rankiem 4 sierpnia 2016 przedstawiciele firmy deweloperskiej Dom
Development przybyli do ogrodów ROD. Przecięli kłódkę na drzwiach i
weszli na teren nie informując o tym działkowców. Następnie
powiedzieli, że otrzymali od PINB (Powiatowy Inspektor Nadzoru
Budowlanego) pismo wzywające ich do zburzenia nielegalnej budowli.
Uznali oni, że tą budowlą są turbina wiatrowa i wieża. Przekazali nam, że zostaną one wyburzone w ciągu tygodnia.
Turbina wiatrowa jest istotną częścią ogrodów ROD. Ogrody ROD pracują
nad uprawą dobrego jedzenia w centrum Warszawy. Turbina wiatrowa
zapewnia czystą energię do tego projektu. Została ona ostrożnie i
bezpieczne zbudowana z wysokiej jakości materiałów pochodzących z
recyklingu. Korpus turbiny jest zrobiony z używanej pralki. Ta budowla
była przedmiotem warsztatów Szkoły Ogrodników Miejskich. Ludzie
przyszli żeby nauczyć się zasady działania turbin wiatrowych i zobaczyć jak nasza konstrukcja została zbudowana. Warsztaty miały na celu szerzenie wiedzy o odnawialnych źródłach energii i nabycie podstawowych umiejętności konstrukcyjnych.
Obecnie Dom Development twierdzi, że są zobowiązani do zniszczenia budowli.
